Which professions are deemed shortage occupations?
Shortage occupations are promulgated each year in a regulation (Fachkräfteverordnung) issued by the Federal Minister of Labour (Arbeitsminister/Arbeitsministerin) in consultation with the Federal Minister of Economics (Wirtschaftsminister/Wirtschaftsministerin). Which occupations are considered shortage occupations depends on the development of the Austrian labour market.
Candidates from a Non EU Country, planning to apply for a job in Austria and having a Profession that is listed on this list, are eligible to apply for a Red-White-Red Card Shortage Occupation. In this case there is no labour market check and the processing time shortens from ca 8 weeks to 6 weeks.
